Options for Reforming the Global Fund Board
At the Fundās 31st Board meeting, held 6-7 March 2104 in Jakarta, it was announced that a working group on governance will be established to examine the Boardās structure and working methods. Reforming itself will be as difficult as anything the Board has ever had to do, because there is no entity above it that can force it to look into a mirror and address its own weaknesses. Over the past year the author has interviewed more than two dozen people while conducting research for this paper. This paper is based both on those interviews and on the authorās own experiences during a decade of attending Global Fund board meetings as a non-speaking observer.
