Declarations and Governance Mechanisms: Misplaced Ambitions and Too Many Promises to Keep?

What is the Global Fund Board meeting about? You’ll get some of the answers here. In the run-up to the Global Fund Board meeting towards the end of this month, we analyse some of the voluminous documents that form the dossier for it. These include strategic performance and the working of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM). We also look at the Joint Learning Program in Africa as health financing becomes the new imperative, with shrinking international development assistance. One of the latter’s unfortunate impacts can be seen on the stalling of the malaria eradication drive and the Yaoundé Declaration, is one of the responses to it that we cover.

With the Global Fund Board meeting this month, we bring the Agenda and get into the details of what it all means actually. Then we do a deep dive into some of the reportage from it. Some of the reports we examine include Strategic Performance Report for 2017-2022 including Key Performance Indicators at end 2023. This is followed-up by the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), divided into articles on CCM positioning and CCM engagement with civil society, communities and key populations.

 

Then comes news from the field on the meeting of the Joint Learning Agenda program, which brought together civil society groups and global health initiatives to promote health financing and Universal Health Coverage.

 

The Yaoundé Declaration, by health ministers from 11 high-prevalence African countries, marked a renewed commitment to eliminating malaria deaths on the continent.
