ABSTRACT Welcome to the Global Fund Observer Newsletter. Over 1,000 people signed up for the Newsletter within 24 hours of its being announced on December 18, with many more since. One third of the Newsletter subscribers have also signed up to participate in the GFO Discussion Forum.

Welcome to the Global Fund Observer Newsletter. Over 1,000 people signed up for the Newsletter within 24 hours of its being announced on December 18, with many more since. One third of the Newsletter subscribers have also signed up to participate in the GFO Discussion Forum.

This issue contains some background information about the Global Fund that enthusiasts can digest during the holiday season. Starting with Issue 2 we will follow a more standard format, with News, Analysis, and Commentary. Issue 2 will be sent out in the first week of January; Issue 3 will be sent out a week or two later, before the Global Fund Board meeting that takes place January 29-31; and Issue 4 will be sent out shortly after the board meeting, reporting on what happened.
