ABSTRACT We correct some inaccurate information in an article in GFO 195 on the search for a new Executive Director for the Global Fund.
In an article in GFO 195 on the search for the next Executive Director of the Global Fund, we wrote: “As previously agreed by the Board, the final list of four candidates will include at least two women.” We used that same language in an article in GFO 184 in May 2012, citing as our source a news release issued by the Global Fund Secretariat.
The Global Fund has informed us that the language we used is not correct. What the Board decided, as reflected in the terms of reference for the Ad-Hoc Nominations Committee, is that there could be “up to four” names on the final list and that “there will be at least as many women as men.” Thus, several permutations are possible. For example, there could be two names on the final list, one woman and one man. Or there could be three names, two women and one man. And so forth.
The GFO 195 article contained two errors. The terms of reference for the ED position were agreed on 6 July 2012, not 9 August 2012 (as reported). The list of 11 candidates is called the “long list,” not the “short list” (as reported). The term “short list” refers to the final list of up to four candidates.
