The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria has provided its implementing countries with two pathways to access resources to fight COVID-19. The first one is through flexibility of the existing grants and the second one is through the newly created COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM). This update has two attachments presented as questions and answers (Q&A) summarizing existing guidance notes and announcements.
The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria published an update on procurement of COVID-19 related diagnostics on 27 May 2020. The Global Fund is part of a consortium led by World Health Organization to provide equitable and rapid access to COVID-19 health products and diagnostics for low- and middle-income countries. The Global Fund developed the “Accelerated Order Mechanism” to support countries to purchase automated COVID-19 diagnostics from Cepheid and Abbott, two pharmaceutical manufacturers.
