Late last night, the Global Fund Board abandoned its efforts to choose a new Executive Director from among the five short-listed candidates. The search will be resumed over the coming months.
All important board decisions require a "double two-thirds majority", with votes in favour from at least seven of the ten board members from the "donor group" and from at least seven of the ten board members from the "recipient group". None of the five short-listed candidates achieved that level of support.
The board meeting continues until Friday afternoon. GFO will provide further details after the meeting ends.
