The Global Fund Board will not approve funding for Phase 2 of a Round 8 health systems strengthening (HSS) grant in Guinea-Bissau. The Board’s No-Go decision follows notice of an intent to recommend a No-Go for this grant provided by the Global Fund Secretariat in October 2012 (see GFO article).

Global Fund and Manufacturers Reduce Prices of Malaria Drugs in Eight Countries

Malaria patients in eight countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia will pay significantly less for ACTs (artemisinin-based combination therapies) purchased through the private health care system, as a result of agreements between the Global Fund and six manufacturers of malaria drugs.

Global Fund Pursues Discussions with GAVI and World Bank on Joint Funding of HSS

The Global Fund is in discussions with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) and the World Bank concerning the creation of a common platform for jointly funding health systems strengthening (HSS). For countries, a jointly funded HSS mechanism would mean simplified access to HSS funding, better alignment of financing to national HSS-related strategies, and reduced transaction costs.
