Venezuela is in the middle of an unprecedented, state-made, complex humanitarian emergency.  The public health crisis, which is just a symptom of the larger unraveling that is unfolding, has reached extreme levels. Essentials like soap and gloves have vanished from hospital floors. Life-saving medications are sometimes only available on the black market and cost half a month’s wages.

Funding of $179 million awarded to 13 grants from nine countries

In June 2016, the Global Fund Board approved $179 million in funding for 13 grants emanating from concept notes submitted by nine countries. Of the $179 million, $80 million represented new money; the balance was existing funding that had been approved prior to the new funding model but was nevertheless included in the NFM allocations to countries.

Five NGO partners from Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Tajikistan were selected by the Eurasian Harm Reduction Network

The Eurasian Harm Reduction Network issued a tender in September 2013 for in-country partners to implement the regional programme, "Harm Reduction Works. Fund it!" Developed as part of the network's concept note for the transition phase of the new funding model, the programme seeks to facilitate effective regional advocacy for harm reduction among injected drug users across five countries in EECA.

OIG Cites Good Practices in CARICOM HIV Grant

Says grant is a good model of how a regional grant can benefit small island states

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found much to admire in its diagnostic review of a Round 9 HIV grant to the Caribbean Community Secretariat (CARICOM). The OIG said that it had observed many good management and programme practices in the implementation of the grant, and that the grant was a good model of how a regional grant should work in small island states.
