The Global Fund seeks the right balance between risk mitigation and grant implementation in Mali malaria grant
When it recommended a Mali malaria grant for approval recently, the Global Fund’s Grant Approvals Committee (GAC) acknowledged that there are implementation challenges associated with this grant and said that it welcomed the Secretariat’s plans “to identify bottlenecks, and holistically review and harmonize the controls in place with the aim of balancing risk mitigation and effective grant implementation.”
The Global Fund Board has approved Phase 2 funding for a Round 2 malaria rolling continuation channel grant in Namibia. The principal recipient (PR) for this grant is the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in the Ministry of Health and Social Services. In approving the Phase 2 funding, the Board was acting on recommendations from the Grants Renewal Panel in the Secretariat.

I was saddened to learn that Dr Tewolde Gebremeskel, Head of the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) in Eritrea, has died at the age of 60. His intelligence, fierce drive, transparency, work ethic and energy, supported by an able, well-organised team, have been largely responsible for Eritrea’s successful malaria control programme in the last 15 years.
