The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) successfully procures and distributes government, Global Fund, and other donor-funded commodities. Prices obtained by KEMSA are competitive compared to prices obtained by the Global Fund’s Pooled Procurement Mechanism (PPM), stock-outs of health commodities occur rarely, if ever, commodities are delivered in a timely fashion, and inventory is properly managed at all stages of the supply chain.
Currency fluctuations are a major concern for Global Fund stakeholders, particularly recipient countries whose domestic currency can experience significant shifts over relatively short periods of time. The strength of both the US dollar and the Euro in recent years has further exacerbated this issue for many countries.
Almost all of the targets for the 2017-2022 Strategic Key Performance Indicator Framework have now been approved, locking in place the full set of targets that the Global Fund will measure its work against for the next few years.

Although clients using wambo.org express a high degree of satisfaction with the platform, the project has experienced delays, has not achieved projected savings, and has not improved lead times for orders, compared to the Pooled Procurement Mechanism (PPM).
The Global Fund, one of the main purchasers of generic antiretroviral (ARV) medicines for HIV patients in low- and middle-income countries, has dismissed concerns that the limited number of manufacturers tapped to supply these drugs could result in immediate or future shortages. Fund officials said systems are in place to forecast demand, deal with any supply disruptions and increase production to meet future need.

At the end of May 2016, the Global Fund formally announced wambo.org, a new online marketplace where implementers of Global Fund grants will be able to check prices and place orders for directly for medicines, other health products and non-health commodities. There are plans to expand the reach of wambo.org even further.
